Late last year Denver City Council approved a Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) proposal for increasing the maximum fines for residential rental properties to $5,000.
As part of our effort to make Denver the safest place to rent a home in America, DLCP is escalating residential rental property enforcement efforts. Beginning immediately, in partnership with the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment, any unlicensed property found to have public health or housing violations will be subject to an initial fine of $250, with escalating penalties up to $5,000. Licensed and unlicensed properties are also subject to fines and citations for any housing code violations.
More than 28,500 landlords have complied with the residential rental licensing law in the City and County of Denver. This is an enhanced enforcement effort to increase the licensing compliance rate more than 2 years since all landlords in Denver were required to be licensed.
Complaints about unlicensed properties can be made on our website or by calling 311.
