The Department of Excise and Licenses is sharing information from the Department of Financial Empowerment and Protection and its eviction prevention work group on eviction and wage theft resources that are available from the City and County of Denver that can be relevant information for property owners and tenants.
If tenants live in Denver and are at risk of eviction, behind on rent, received a notice from a landlord or building manager or from the courts or the Denver Sheriff Department, they can apply to receive up to six months of rental assistance and utility and/or legal assistance if they qualify.
Wage theft is when employers do not pay their employees according to the law. Examples include minimum wage/overtime violations, illegal deductions, paying someone last, no paid sick leave, paying less than promised and unpaid, off-the-clock work.
